The Neglected Part of “The Great Commission” – Discipleship.

In Matthew 28:18-20,”And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

For 30 years, our church, Bible Baptist Church, has been fairly known with its mass evangelism and zealous soul-winning programs. By the grace of God last 2014 during our tent meeting, we had led 1,900 souls to Christ! Every Tuesday’s Church-Wide Soul Winning program, the church has been averaging more than 800 souls won in every 3 months for one hour/week with 25-35 soul winners. And we have more soul winners joining this year. Soul winning has been and will always be a great way of keeping our church alive and excited every services. God blesses a church who win souls. Through our commitment in Christ, we will always be zealous toward fulfilling this part of “The Great Commission” commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ to believers.

But there’s more into it. Soul winning is just a kick off start of potential disciples and followers of Jesus. In the New Testament, Jesus focused on the twelve disciples and they turned the world upside down. Discipleship is our main theme and will always be our focus along with soul-winning ministry. Let us not neglect the another great part of “The Great Commission”.

Discipleship is not a program. It is not a ministry. It is a lifelong commitment to a lifestyle. —Growing True Disciples by George Barna

As a result, our pastor, Dr. Edgar Nono, has been training “Disciplers and Discipler-Makers” since the start of this year 2015. Every week, he conducts training/mentoring and casting his visions to to 40 church members. Also, we just launched a brand new ministry in Bacolod City, the capital city of our province Negros Occidental, to keep the ‘College and Career’ Sunday School class members rooted and grounded by the Word of God – Discipleship.

Please continue to pray for our church this year as we try to attempt greater things for God through the rapid and strong discipleship emphasis.

Growing our ministry externally is attractive, but growing it internally is more productive. –James Nono
